Core Technology

SALT — Sealed And Lubricated Track

SALT is KSS's sealed and lubricated track system. Three engineering elements work together to retain lubrication inside the pin-bushing interface for the full service life of the assembly.

Precision-fit seal groups at each pin and bushing pair prevent ground contamination from entering the lubrication chamber. The internal cavity is factory pre-charged with GL5-rated synthetic lubricant — maintaining viscosity stability from −35°C to +50°C and eliminating field re-greasing requirements regardless of operating environment or maintenance intervals.

The base material is boron-alloyed steel, carburized and heat-treated to achieve a hard exterior surface over a tough, impact-resistant core. This dual-property profile resists both surface abrasion and shock loading — the primary failure modes in coal and mineral mining operations.

Engineering Details

Material

Boron steel forging — selected for superior hardenability and toughness under impact loading.

Heat Treatment

Induction hardening to precise case depth specifications. Core toughness maintained to absorb shock loads.

Dimensional Tolerancing

Precision-controlled pitch, height, and bore geometry for accurate interface with sprocket and roller systems.

Pin & Bushing

Carburized bushings with case depth consistently increased in the current specification to extend the hardened wear surface before base material is reached. PPR (Positive Pin Retention) provides a mechanical lock at the pin-link interface — reducing end play and maintaining the seal compression geometry that keeps lubrication in and abrasives out.

Lubrication

Factory pre-charged with GL5-rated synthetic lubricant. The synthetic formulation maintains stable viscosity from −35°C to +50°C — covering cold start conditions and sustained high-temperature cycles in tropical open-cut operations. No field re-greasing required.

Seal Groups

Seal groups are engineered to heavy-duty application standards. Each assembly maintains lubrication chamber integrity across the full service interval — preventing contamination ingress at the pin-bushing interface in abrasive, high-moisture, and laterite soil conditions.

Enhanced Specification

SALT with PPR — For High-Impact Mining Cycles

Sealed and Lubricated Track Chain with PPR is engineered for machines operating in arduous conditions — where high-impact loading and sustained duty cycles accelerate the two most common track chain failure modes: lubrication loss at the pin-link joint, and pin shifting under load.

A hardened metal ring (PPR — Positive Pin Retention) is pressed into the groove between the pin and link, then mechanically deformed into a conical seat. This locks the pin to the link — inhibiting end-play generation and outward link movement on the pin, and maintaining joint sealing even where end-play exceeds the nominal capacity of the seal group.
